Game 70, 06/13/24: Dodgers 1, Rangers 3

Chavez Ravine, CA — With the news of Dave Roberts giving Yoshinobu Yamamoto two extra rest days, he will get the start against the Royals for this upcoming weekend series. Kind of unfortunate he couldn’t pitch on his bobblehead night, but for this rubber matchup, the Dodgers sent out their bullpen and Michael Grove led the charge. Unfortunately with the offense not picking up the phone again, they dropped the series against Texas with a final of 3-1.

The Rangers hopped on the board in the 1st after a grounder hit by Nathaniel Lowe allowed Josh Smith to score from 3rd and a Wyatt Langford single added the second run for a two spot to begin the game for Texas.

Langford struck again in the 3rd as he hit a soft fly that turned around Freddie Freeman at first, but he was unable to come up with it and allowed the third Ranger to score in the game. Texas wasn’t exactly knocking the cover off the ball, but they were productive nevertheless.

The game was dry on both sides of the plate for both teams until the Dodgers’ bottom half of the 7th. After a blunder on the base paths by Andy Pages that ended the game for LA last night, Pages decided to right his wrong by launching a solo shot to left to put the lone Dodgers run on the board.

After Cavan Biggio took one for the team on the foot, and Austin Barnes produced a hit past a diving Marcus Semien, the Dodgers were in a good position to get back into this game with the Big Three up to bat. The result: Mookie Betts fouled tip strike 3, Shohei Ohtani a swing-and-miss strikeout, and Freeman swing-and-miss strikeout. The best chance LA had all day to score was spoiled.

Not really a fun fact for us Dodgers fans, but Texas pitcher David Robertson is the only pitcher this year to successfully strike out Betts, Ohtani, and Freeman in succession. This was his second time achieving this feat as well in as many days.

The Dodgers dropped the series against Texas, but they have this next weekend series to bounce back as they host the Kansas City Royals for three games starting Friday at 6:10 PM PT. Gavin Stone will get the start for the Boys in Blue and Cole Ragans will be on the bump for KC. Hopefully, the bats wake up so we can get back on track!
