Game 43, 5/13/2024: Dodgers 6, Giants 4
SAN FRANCISCO, CA — After coming off a not-so-fun weekend series loss against San Diego, The Dodgers were looking to bounce back and head North as they faced their long-time rival in the Giants at Oracle Park in San Francisco.
Mookie Betts started this series off with a bang as he launched a lead-off home run to left field (7) to put the Dodgers on top early and snapped his homerless streak that was almost reaching a full month.
Luis Matos lifted the Giants up in their half of the second after a pair of singles had runners on first and second to set up a 3-run shot for Matos to retake the lead.
Shohei Ohtani cut the deficit to one in the top of the fifth with an RBI single and Gavin Lux doubled in a run to tie the game an inning later.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto had another decent outing as his final state line was 5.2 IP, 5 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 6 SO.
The back-and-forth slug match did not stop there as Heliot Ramos would put the Giants back on top again in the sixth with his RBI single.
The biggest hit of the night came from the pinch hit at bat of Kike Hernandez as he blasted a ball barely fair over the left field wall to tie the game in the top of the 7th.
This contest went into extras and Will Smith broke the score for the Dodgers in the 10th and had a breakout double over the head of the Giants centerfielder to extend their lead 6-4.
This is all J.P. Feyereisen needed to shut the Giants in order in the 10th to secure the game one victory. They will look for the series win tomorrow at 6:45 PM PT as Gavin Stone will take the bump for Los Angeles.
