Dodgers Recap: Dodgers Break Skid with Tense 2-1 Victory over Giants

Game 96, 7/12/2025: Dodgers 1, Giants 0

SAN FRANCISCO — The Los Angeles Dodgers snapped their seven-game losing streak today with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over the San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park. Shohei Ohtani made his scheduled three-inning start, showcasing dominant stuff from the outset.

First Inning: Ohtani was in vintage form, needing just 12 pitches (10 strikes) to strike out the side, setting down the first three Giants batters in impressive fashion.

Top of the Second: The Dodgers got on the board first. Michael Conforto, after reaching base, scored on a Tommy Edman ground ball to first, aided by some shaky Giants fielding and Conforto’s heads-up baserunning.

Ohtani’s Strong Outing: Ohtani’s day on the mound concluded after three scoreless innings. His fastball consistently touched 100 mph, complemented by breaking balls in the 80s, and he effectively introduced a new cutter into his repertoire. His final pitching line was: 3 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, with 6 swing-and-misses on 36 pitches (25 strikes). Emmet Sheehan entered the game in relief to start the bottom of the fourth.

Top of the Sixth: The Dodgers extended their lead when Hyeseong Kim delivered a line drive to left field, scoring Conforto. However, Kim was thrown out at second trying to stretch the single into a double, ending the inning.

Bottom of the Eighth: The Giants finally broke through in the eighth. Emmet Sheehan loaded the bases with one out, prompting a pitching change. Alex Vesia was brought in and surrendered a sacrifice fly to Rafael Devers, scoring Patrick Bailey. Vesia managed to limit the damage, getting out of the inning with only one run allowed.

Ninth Inning Nail-Biter: Tanner Scott came in for the bottom of the ninth with a one-run lead. He secured a foul out and then struck out two batters to close out the game, sealing the 2-1 Dodgers victory.

The Dodgers will look to take the series tomorrow in San Francisco. The final game of the three-game set is another afternoon contest, with first pitch scheduled for 1:05 PM PST, and can be watched on SportsNet LA.
