Dodgers Recap: Dodgers get swept by the Astros as they gave up 29 runs in a three-game series

Game 90, 7/6/2025: Dodgers 1, Astros 5

CHAVEZ RAVINE — The Dodgers dropped their three-game series to the Astros at Dodger Stadium this weekend, with a lackluster offense failing to support Emmet Sheehan and a shaky bullpen unable to keep the game within reach. Hyeseong Kim dazzled at second base with two standout defensive plays, but it wasn’t enough to spark the team as they drop the finale 5-1. The coaching staff has plenty to discuss on their flight to Milwaukee.

Bottom of the Second
The Dodgers struck first with Dalton Rushing stand-up RBI double, scoring a run. Batting one and two in OKC, Rushing and Hyeseong Kim consistently produced runs, hinting at an exciting day that never fully materialized.

Top of the Third
The Astros tied it at 1-1 when Esteury Ruiz caught a foul pop-up in right field with Astros on second and third, allowing Zack Short to score from third on the sacrifice. Had he caught the ball cleanly, the run probably wouldn’t have scored, but Ruiz tumbled into the netting, which let Short scamper home on the fly ball that only measured 228 feet from home plate.

End of the Fifth
Emmet Sheehan’s day ended after a solid five innings, limiting the Astros to one run despite minimal offensive support. His final line: 80 pitches (50 strikes), 5 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, 14 swings and misses.

Top of the Sixth
The Dodgers relinquished the lead when reliever Will Klein walked the bases loaded with two outs, then walked in the go-ahead run, giving the Astros a 2-1 edge. Alex Vesia came in to strike out Astros slugger Isaac Paredes, halting the damage.

Top of the Eighth
The Astros sealed the Dodgers’ fate as Christian Walker and Yainer Diaz homered off Tanner Scott, extending Houston’s lead to 4-1.

Top of the Ninth

Altuve would add another run on the board with a home run from Public Enemy Number One Jose Altuve off Anthony Banda putting Houston up 5-1. To be honest folks, the “Boo Altuve” strategy isn’t really happening.

The Dodgers head to Milwaukee to face the Brewers, hoping to reverse their fortunes before the All-Star break. With a struggling bullpen and an offense that’s gone quiet, they have work to do. First pitch is at 4:40 PM PST.
