San Diego, California – July 31: Clayton Kershaw took the mound to try and take game two and split the series at Petco Park, but the Padres said not today and beat the Dodgers 8-1.

Before the first pitch is thrown, coach Dave Roberts said RHP Clayton Kershaw will pitch five innings and eighty pitches in his second start after returning back from his first surgery of his career. The Dodgers faced Padres RHP Dylan Cease who is coming off a win against the Washington National were he didn’t allow a run and had nine strike outs.

Kershaw last 3.2 innings after giving up seven runs to Padres. Kershaw struggled with his command and the Padres took advantaged in hitter counts to get four runs in the second inning. Kershaw went 3.2IP / 6H / 7R / 3 ER / 1BB / 0K / 1HR 5.87ERA.

In the fifth inning, Dodgers newest pick up from the trade deadline RHP Michael Kopech made his Dodgers debut. Kopech struck out the side with three strikeouts, six whiffs, and finished off Luis Campusano with 101 mph high fast ball.

It is apparent the Dodgers are missing Freddie Freeman and Mookie Betts offense and defense. Dodgers’ offense put on a pathetic display of hitting going 29AB / 1R / 3H / 1RBI / 3BB / 11K. The Dodgers travel to Oakland to take on the A’s Friday night at 6:40 pm PST.
