GLENDALE, Ariz. — The Los Angeles Dodgers secured an 8-4 victory over the Texas Rangers in today’s afternoon matchup, led by solid pitching and key offensive contributions.
Dustin May set the tone with three scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and two walks while striking out three. The right-hander continues to show steady improvement this spring, a promising sign for the Dodgers’ rotation.
Los Angeles struck first in the opening inning when a throwing error on Teoscar Hernández’s grounder allowed Shohei Ohtani to score. Freddie Freeman extended the lead in the third with a solo home run, continuing his strong spring as he works back from last season’s ankle injury.
Catcher Will Smith, limited earlier in camp due to an ankle issue, added a solo homer in the fourth to make it 3-0. Later in the inning, Miguel Rojas drove in newly acquired outfielder Michael Conforto with an RBI single, pushing the lead to 4-0.
The Rangers broke through in the fifth when former Dodger Nick Ahmed launched a two-run homer off Jackson Ferris. Despite the blemish, Ferris had a solid outing, striking out five over two innings while allowing three hits and two runs. His ability to generate strikeouts has been a bright spot this spring.
Blake Treinen struggled in his inning, giving up two runs on three hits. The veteran reliever is expected to play a key role in the bullpen, and consistency will be a focus as the season approaches.
The Dodgers’ offense responded in the sixth when Tommy Edman crushed a two-run homer to extend the lead to 6-2. In the seventh, Kody Hoese and Bubba Alleyne added RBI hits to make it 8-4, sealing the win.
Aside from the runs allowed by Ferris and Treinen, the Dodgers’ pitching staff delivered a strong performance, while the offense saw contributions from key players.
The Dodgers will return to action tomorrow against the Seattle Mariners at Peoria Stadium. First pitch is set for 5:40 p.m. PST.
