Dodgers Recap: Dodgers’ Struggles Continue in Walk-Off Loss to Orioles

Game 141, 9/5/2025: Dodgers 1, Orioles 2

Baltimore, MD – The Dodgers opened their three-game set against the Orioles on Friday with unexpected news: Tyler Glasnow was scratched from his scheduled start due to back tightness. Shohei Ohtani, still battling illness and on short notice, took the mound for his 12th start of the season. Despite limited preparation, Ohtani looked sharp. He worked 3.2 innings, striking out five while allowing three hits and one walk.

Orioles starter Dean Kremer kept the Dodgers’ lineup quiet early, but his night was cut short in the third inning with right elbow discomfort. Los Angeles nearly took advantage in the fourth, loading the bases, but Daulton Rushing struck out to end the threat.

In the bottom of the fourth, Ohtani recorded two outs but allowed a double, and a wild pitch advanced the runner to third. Being cautious, the Dodgers pulled him for Anthony Banda, who walked the first batter he faced but escaped the inning unscathed. Banda returned in the fifth, recording an out before walking Jackson Holliday. Ben Casparius then took over, retiring the next batter but walking another. Holliday stole third, and a wild pitch by Casparius allowed him to score, giving Baltimore a 1–0 lead.

The Dodgers responded in the sixth when Freddie Freeman launched a solo home run to tie the game. However, the inning brought more misfortune as Daulton Rushing fouled a ball off his leg and had to exit with the training staff.

Jack Dreyer worked the sixth with a walk and a strikeout before handing things to Blake Treinen, who cruised through the seventh. Michael Kopech followed with a clean eighth, but the Dodgers’ bats remained stagnant.

For a team already in a rough stretch, Friday’s 1–1 stalemate through eight innings highlighted the adversity they’ve faced, from injuries to offensive struggles. The Dodgers ultimately fell when Samuel Basallo hit a walk-off home run off Tanner Scott, marking their fourth consecutive loss. Yoshinobu Yamamoto is scheduled to take the mound tomorrow, with first pitch set for 4:05 p.m. PDT.
