Game 57, 5/28/2024 (game two): Dodgers 3, Mets 0
New York, NY — What a much-needed sweep for the Boys in Blue! After an extra-inning thriller in game one that was highlighted by late offensive production, game two’s headline was the dominant performance that Gavin Stone delivered on the mound. Stone threw seven innings, only allowing three hits and no runs while striking out a career-high seven en route to a 3-0 Dodgers win.
The Dodgers’ game one offense seeped into game two as Will Smith, who was taking over the DH spot for Shohei Ohtani, blasted a solo shot in the top half of the first for his seventh home run of the year. Following up a leadoff single by Andy Pages in the second, Miguel Rojas came to the plate and slashed a double over the head of Harrison Bader to drive in the second run of the ballgame for LA. You can thank the blustery New York wind conditions for that one.
Miguel Vargas finally squashed his home run bug as he launched a solo shot of his own in the sixth. A much-needed resurgence boost for the young ball player!
In these two games, the Dodgers offense produced 8 runs on 21 hits in the span of six hours! Already miles better than what the offensive numbers were showing in the last two series and the production from Freddie Freeman was monstrous as he went 5-8 with three RBI, including a home run, in the two-game stretch.
The starting pitchers were just as good this doubleheader as Tyler Glasnow and Gavin Stone threw for a combined 14 innings, allowing two runs and striking out 15 Mets all together.
Alex Vesia shut out the Mets in the final two innings to secure the doubleheader sweep and look for the series sweep tomorrow at 1:10 PM PT. The Dodgers will send out James Paxton and the Mets will turn to David Peterson. A sigh of relief this series win was and what a way to get back on track! Let’s get this sweep tomorrow Dodgers fans!
