Game 29, 4/28/2025: Dodgers 7, Marlins 6
CHAVEZ RAVINE, CA — On Japanese Heritage night. Old friend Clayton McCullough returned to Dodgers stadium and received his World Series Ring. McCullough spent the past 10 seasons in the Dodgers organization before accepting the head coach position with the Marlins. Anthony Banda gave up a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth that tied the game.
In the bottom of the first, Shohei Ohtani lead it off with a sharp line drive to right field. Ohtani got his seventh steal of the season and was moved to third after a Mookie Betts sacrifice fly. Freddie Freeman hit a line drive to center field scoring Ohtani and putting Los Angeles on the board first.
The Dodgers had a big opportunity to really open the game up with Max Muncy and Miguel Rojas getting singles. The bases were loaded when Betts hit a ground ball into left field scoring one. After Betts hit, Dodger hitter struck out and flied out leaving the bases full.
Miguel Rojas got his first extra base and RBI against his old team scoring Andy Pages from second base. The Dodgers would strand two runners on base after a Mookie Betts line drive to second baseman Otto Lopez to end the fourth inning.
After a lazy play in right field that advanced a runner to second base. Teoscar Hernandez made up for it by hitting a moon shot to left field for a two-run homer.
Dustin May’s night was done after giving up a couple of hits in the top of the sixth. May bounced back after one of his worst starts against the Cubs. His line for the night 83P / 48S / 5.1IP / 5H / 3ER / 3BB / 3K / 7 swing and miss. Anthony Banda came in to replace May and after walking his first batter, Banda gave up a grand slam to tie the game up.
Miguel Rojas put down a clutch bunt for his third hit of night, to set the stage for Ohtani. Shohei showed some patience and took his third walk of night. The bottom of the sixth ended with two runners on base. The team was 3-11 with runners in scoring position and 7 runners left on base.
That Dodgers couldn’t capitalize in the ninth after Freddie Freeman took a leadoff walk. Game went into extra innings and the Marlins Jesus Sanchez doubled to right field scoring Ronny Simon for the lead.
The Dodgers got two runners on base in the bottom of the tenth after Andy Pages took a walk. Kiki Hernandez put down a bunt that moved both runners in scoring position. Tommy Edman came up to bat and scorched the first pitch down the right field line scoring Conforto and Pages for a two-run walk off to win the game.
Tomorrow’s game will be a bullpen for the Dodgers. Sandy Alcantara will take the mound for the Marlins. Game starts at 7:10 PM PST and can been watched on SportsNet LA.
