Game 22, 4/19/2024: Dodgers 4, Mets 9
CHAVEZ RAVINE, CA — The Los Angeles Dodgers, who have lost back-to-back series on this nine-game homestand, welcomed the New York Mets as LA would turn to Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who pitched well his last time out in the no-decision against the San Diego Padres.
The New York Mets would send left-handed starter Sean Manaea, who is 1-5 with a 7.50 ERA and 1.52 WHIP in 10 career games (seven starts) against the Dodgers.
Yamamoto started the day off great compared to past outings, tossing a clean first inning on nine pitches and collecting two strikeouts. However, the Mets would strike first with a one-out blast by DJ Stewart. The Mets would continue to add on with a two-out RBI single by Harrison Bader, bringing their lead to 2-0 early in the game.
The Mets would cause trouble again in the third after a lead-off walk by Brandon Nimmo and a double by Starling Marte. After a weak flyball to Andy Pages, the Mets would strike for their third run of the day after an RBI single by Pete Alonso. The Dodgers were staring at a 4-0 deficit early.
With one out in the top of the fourth inning, the Mets were threatening again with runners at second and third as Yamamoto would face the Mets order for the third time. But Yamamoto would toss a zero with back-to-back strikeouts to Marte and Nimmo.
Despite Yamamoto pitching six innings, the Dodgers bullpen got pegged for five runs, which thwarted the Dodgers’ comeback attempt and wasted a Chris Taylor game-tying single in the sixth inning.
The Dodgers dropped this one 9-4 and will be back at it again for game two tomorrow at 1:05 PM PT on FS1 for Saturday’s Game of the Week.
