Dodgers Recap: May shoves and the top of the lineup produces to top Rockies

Dustin goes 6 innings with seven strike outs to have his best night of the season since coming back from injury.

Game 18, 4/14/2025: Dodgers 5, Rockies 3

CHAVEZ RAVINE — The Dodgers took the field on Hello Kitty night looking to right the ship and get back to winning. But they would have to do it without Teoscar Herendez who is battling a stomach virus. Dustin May pitched his best start of the season even with two errors from Max Muncy that extended the innings.

In the first inning, Shohei Ohtani hit a single to get on base. Mookie Betts took a hanging slider and crushed it over the left field wall for a two-run homerun and gave Dustin May a two-run lead.

Dustin May took care of the Rockies offense in the top of the third and handed it off to his offense. Ohtani took advantage of that and hit one to the moon for a solo shot to centerfield. Freddie Freeman smoked a double to leftfield and Will Smith moved him to third with a single. Michael Conforto hit into his second double play of the night to end the inning and leaving a runner in scoring position.

Dustin May’s night was done after six (should have been scoreless) innings. His stats from tonight’s game are impressive. 76P / 52S / 6IP / 3H / 1ER / 0BB / 7K / 14 swing and misses. May relied heavily on his sweeper and sinker to strike out seven batters and giving fans free jumbo jacks from Jack in the Box.

At the end of the sixth inning. The Dodgers leave the bases loaded as the bottom half of lineup continue to struggle with runners in scoring position.

Anthony Banda came into the seventh inning behind Dustin May. Rockies Mickey Moniak singled on a sharp ground ball to center fielder Tommy Edman. Hunter Goodman came up next and hit home run on a fly ball to center field. Moniak scored cutting into the Dodgers lead.

Tanner Scott came into the ninth inning to close it out but gave up two hard-hit balls to keep the Rockies alive with runners in scoring position. Scott settled in and got the next batters out to win 5-3 over the Rockies.

The Dodgers bottom of the lineup went 1-15 with runners in scoring position and stranded 10 batters. Hopefully they can figure things out for tomorrow’s game.

Tuesday’s game will start at 7:10 PM PST. Landon Knack will take the mound for Los Angeles and Dodger batters will face Colorado’s Ryan Feltner on Jackie Robinson Day.
