Cactus League Game 8, 2/27/2025: Rockies 2, Dodgers 0

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – This afternoon’s matchup between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Colorado Rockies was a Spring Training pitching duel, with the Dodgers ultimately falling 2-0.

Landon Knack took the mound for Los Angeles as he continues his bid for a spot in the rotation. Despite some early command issues, Knack worked through 1.1 innings, allowing two hits, one walk, and no earned runs.

On the offensive side, Freddie Freeman made his spring debut as the designated hitter; he continues to recover from the sprained right ankle he sustained last September. Freeman has been progressing well and contributed with a base hit in his return to action.

The Rockies broke the scoreless tie at the bottom of the fifth when Ezequiel Tovar lined an RBI double to center off reliever Kirby Yates, putting Colorado on top 1-0. The Dodgers then turned to left-hander Tanner Scott later in the seventh, but he surrendered an additional run, finishing his lone inning with two hits allowed and two walks. Ultimately, this final run would be the nail in the coffin for the Dodgers’ hopes of winning this game.

On a more positive note, Anthony Banda would come into relief at the bottom of the eighth and looked absolutely dominant in his lone inning of work, striking out every batter he faced.

Offensively, the Dodgers struggled to find their rhythm, unable to push a run across, leaving seven runners in scoring position in today’s matchup. Despite the loss, the pitching staff showed promise, limiting damage and making adjustments from previous outings. With the loss, the Dodgers fall to 2-6 in Cactus League play.

Looking ahead, the Dodgers will play their first night game of Cactus League action tomorrow when they take on the Los Angeles Angels at Camelback Ranch. First pitch is set for 8:05 p.m. PST.
