Cactus League Game 5, 2/24/2025: Reds 8, Dodgers 1

GOODYEAR, ARZ —As Spring Training progresses, the Dodgers came up short, losing to the Cincinnati Reds by a score of 1-8. Here are some key takeaways from today’s matchup.

Tyler Glasnow made his highly anticipated Spring Training debut, starting on the mound. The Dodgers’ ace pitched one inning, allowing three hits and one earned run while striking out two. After completing his inning, Glasnow continued his work in the bullpen.

The Dodgers got on the board in the third inning thanks to Eddie Rosario, who is having an impressive start to spring. Swinging a hot bat, Rosario hit a line drive single that scored Sean McLain for the team’s first and only afternoon run.

Kirby Yates, one of the Dodgers’ key bullpen additions this offseason, made his first appearance this afternoon. He pitched one inning, yielding no hits and striking out one.

The Dodgers’ anticipated closer, Tanner Scott, relieved Yates in the bottom of the fourth inning. Although Scott navigated through the inning, he ultimately surrendered a two-run homer to Austin Hays. Scott pitched one inning, allowing one hit, striking out two batters, and giving up two runs.

Overall, it was a quiet afternoon for the Dodgers, as struggles at the plate and on the mound limited their performance. However, with plenty of Spring Training left, they will seek to adjust and build momentum as they prepare for the regular season.

The Dodgers will aim to bounce back tomorrow at Camelback Ranch, where they will face the Seattle Mariners. First pitch is scheduled for 12:05 p.m. PST.
