Cactus League Game 17, 3/8/2025: White Sox 5, Dodgers 2

GLENDALE, Ariz –  Tyler Glasnow took the mound for the Dodgers in this afternoon’s matchup against the Chicago White Sox and delivered a strong performance. The right-hander pitched three innings, allowing just two hits, one walk, and one run—a solo homer by Miguel Vargas—while striking out six. Glasnow’s sharp outing set the stage for the Dodgers to mount a potential comeback later in the game.

Mookie Betts put the Dodgers on the board at the top of the fifth with a sacrifice fly to tie the game. Freddie Freeman followed with an RBI single, giving the Dodgers their first afternoon lead at 2-1.

However, the White Sox responded in the bottom half of the inning as Ben Casparius surrendered a run, tying the game at 2-2. Casparius finished his outing after 1.2 innings, allowing three hits and striking out two.

The sixth inning proved costly for the Dodgers as Anthony Banda struggled on the mound. He lasted just 0.2 innings, allowing three runs on four hits while striking out one. His inability to limit hard contact put the Dodgers in a 5-2 hole.

Alex Vesia appeared in the eighth, tossing a scoreless inning while allowing one hit and striking out two. It was a strong showing from Vesia, who is expected to play a key role in the Dodgers’ bullpen this season.

Outside of the fifth-inning contributions from Betts and Freeman, the Dodgers’ offense was held in check for the remainder of the game. While Glasnow’s start was promising, the bullpen struggled to keep the game within reach. With less than two weeks until their departure for Japan to open the regular season, the Dodgers will look to refine their relief arms.

The Dodgers return to action tomorrow afternoon against the Sacramento Athletics. Blake Snell will take the mound, with first pitch set for 1:05 p.m. PDT.
