Game 31, 4/30/2025: Dodgers 12, Marlins 7

In a game marked by Tony Gonsolin‘s long-awaited return, the Dodgers topped the Miami Marlins 12–7 in a high-scoring affair at Dodger Stadium. The 2022 All-Star made his first Dodgers appearance in over two seasons and looked sharp, tossing six innings while allowing three runs and striking out nine. It was his first major league outing since undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2023, and a strong first step as he works his way back into the rotation.

On the offensive side, Max Muncy delivered his first home run of the season, a solo shot that highlighted a much-needed bounce-back performance. Muncy, who has struggled mightily both at the plate and defensively to start the year, went 2-for-4 in a strong showing that the Dodgers hope signals a turnaround.

Teoscar Hernández continued his scorching hot pace, going 3-for-5 and extending his hot streak. In his last 10 games to end April, Hernández is now hitting .330 with a .326 OBP and four home runs, three of which have come in the previous five games.

Freddie Freeman joined the party as well, launching his 40th career home run against the Miami Marlins, a testament to his dominance over the club. Freeman finished 2-for-4 on the day, raising his season average to .319 with a staggering 1.045 OPS, continuing his role as the heartbeat of the Dodgers’ lineup.

Mookie Betts also had a standout day, driving in four runs while going 2-for-4. The converted shortstop has had a slow start at the plate, but he reminded fans why he’s a perennial MVP candidate. With his four-RBI performance, Betts lifted his average to .250.

The bullpen was largely solid. Alex Vesia and Anthony Banda each tossed scoreless innings in the seventh and eighth, respectively. However, things unraveled a bit in the ninth when newly acquired Yoendrys Gómez came in to close. Gómez allowed four runs on three hits and two walks while striking out one, nearly letting the Marlins back into the game.

Despite the rocky ninth, it was a well-rounded performance from the Dodgers, who looked sharp both on the mound and at the plate. If the bullpen can tighten up and the offense continues to click, this team will be a formidable force moving forward.
