Dodgers Recap: Kim hits his first home run; Yamamoto bounces back as Dodgers take game with big hits in the eighth
Game 44: 5/14/2025: Dodgers 9, Athletics 3

CHAVEZ RAVINE, CA — The Dodgers came into Wednesday night’s game without their team captain Austin Barnes after being DFA today. Yoshinobu Yamamoto looked to bounce back from his worst start of the season. Hyeseong Kim hit his first home and Andy Pages went 3-3 with a walk and home run as the team bounced back from tuesday’s embarrassing loss with a 9-3 win over the Athletics.
Yamamoto set the tone for the team sitting down the first three batters. He had one groundout, sat down two with strikeouts. Shohei Ohtani said ok Yoshi, I’ll lead off crushing the ball to right field (108mph/403ft) for a leadoff homerun.
Andy Pages led off the bottom of the second, crushing a ball (109 mph/417ft) into the left field seats. Hyeseong Kim legged out a single to get on for Ohtani with two outs. Unfortunately, Ohtani hit a ground ball to second base to end the inning.
The Athletics tied the game up in the top of the third. Tyler Soderstrom took Yamamoto deep to center field after hanging up a curveball for a two-run home run.
Miguel Andujar hit a hard line drive past Max Muncy, scoring Shea Langeliers. Mookie Betts could have had a play at the plate but made a bad throw, and the Athletics took the lead.
Hyeseong Kim tied the game up with his first home run in a Dodger uniform. Kim smoked the ball (104mph/385ft) over the right center field wall with a big smile on his face rounding second base. The Dodgers left two runners on base after Max Muncy swung the bat wildly for the third out.
Michael Conforto got his first hit of the night with single on a ground ball to left fielder. Andy Pages got greedy running the bases and was thrown out at third base. Dave Roberts went with the matchups after the A’s brought in a left-handed pitcher. Roberts replaced Hyeseong Kim with Miguel Rojas and it paid off when Miggy Ro got a pinch double that scored Conforto.
In the top of the seventh, Yamamoto’s night was done as Alex Vesia came into to relieve him. He pitched a solid game but had a little trouble with first pitch strikes. His line for the night 88P / 58S / 6IP / 4H / 3ER / 2BB / 6K / 1HR / 14 swing and miss.
The Dodgers got some insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth. Kiki Hernandez hit a single and was moved to second by a Rojas sac bunt. The A’s intentionally walked Ohtani and Betts made them pay with a line drive double to right center field scoring Ohtani and Hernandez. Max Muncy broke the game open, absolutely crushing (106mph/396ft) a three-run home run into the right field seats.
The Dodgers look to win the series tomorrow on Shohei Ohtani bobblehead night. First pitch will be thrown at 7:10 PM PST and can be seen at SportsNet LA. The Athletics will start Osvaldo Bido and the Dodgers will have a bullpen game.
