Dodgers Recap: Justin Wrobleski Gets the Tokyo Series Started by Taking the Mound of Game One Against the Yomiuri Giants

Tokyo — The start of the 2025 baseball season, kicks off with the first of two exhibition games. The Dodgers took on Shosei Togo of the Yomiuri Giants in a packed Tokyo Dome, with Justin Wrobleski taking the mound for game one.

After a Shohei Ohtani walk, Tommy Edman came up next and hit into a ground ball double play. Freddie Freeman hit a weak ground ball to second for the third out. Wrobleski took care of the Giants with a one, two, three inning. Wrobo got one strikeout and two flyouts to end the first inning 0-0.

Michael Conforto got the Dodgers on the board first, crushing the ball over the right-field wall. After a Miguel Rojas hit by pitch, Andy Pages blasted a double to score Rojas from first base. Ohtani was up next, and he did not disappoint the crowd by crushing the ball into the upper seats for a two-run home run. Teoscar wanted to get in on the party and hit a bomb over the right-center field wall for a solo home run. The Dodgers ended the top of the third with a double and three home runs for a 5-0 lead.

In the bottom of the third, Ben Casparius took the mound replacing Wrobleski. Wrobo ended his start with 27P / 18S / 2IP / 0H / 0ER / 3K / 0.00ERA. After giving up a double, Casparius settled in and sat down the next three batters, ending the third with the Dodgers leading 5-0 over the Giants.

After giving up two hits and the Giants stealing two bases, Kirby Yates gives up a hard-hit ball into right field, putting the Giants on the board. At the bottom of the sixth, the Dodgers lead 5-1 over the Giants.

Jack Dreyer came into the ninth inning to close the game out. Dreyer struck out two and grounded one out to end the game. The Dodgers gave the 42,062 fans in attendance a show to remember, with Ohtani going yard in the third inning.

The Dodgers will return to action on Sunday for the second exhibition game against the Tigers at Tokyo Dome. The first pitch is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. PDT and can be watched on SportsNet LA.
