Dodgers Recap: LA drops third straight series as struggles with bullpen/hitting with RISP continue to haunt them

Game 23, 4/20/2024: Dodgers 4, Mets 6

CHAVEZ RAVINE, CA—The Los Angeles Dodgers, determined to bounce back, were gearing up for crucial game two of this three-game weekend series after a disappointing loss last night.

The team would send young right-handed starting pitcher Gavin Stone to the mound, who would need help with command, surrendering five walks in 3.1 innings of work today.

The Dodgers, who are already suffering from numerous rotation injuries and accommodating Yamamoto’s one-start-a-week policy, had to throw yet another bullpen game using bulk inning eaters Ryan Yarbrough and Michael Grove.

Despite being down all game, the Dodgers’ offense had opportunities to score but could not capitalize on most of them. They loaded the bases three separate times, and eight of the 14 strikeouts today came in that situation.

Freddie Freeman came through in the bottom of the sixth inning to bring the Dodgers within one, but the Dodgers bullpen could not keep it close. The Mets added on yet again, and Ryan Brasier, Evan Phillips, and Yarbrough gave up a few runs.

The Dodgers look to escape LA with a win before they head out on their nine-game road trip.
