Dodgers Recap: Max Muncy wakes up the offense with a two-home run night. Dodgers Offense Explodes putting double digits on the board since June 22nd.
Game 114, 8/05/2025: Cardinals 6, Dodgers 12

Chavez Ravine – The Dodgers offense, dormant since late June, erupted for a double-digit scoring night, led by a powerful performance from Max Muncy. Muncy woke up the bats with two home runs and four RBIs, while Teoscar Hernandez also blasted two long balls. The win marks the first time the Dodgers have put up double-digit runs since June 22nd.
The scoring began in the bottom of the first inning. Shohei Ohtani led off with a stand-up double, and after Mookie Betts moved him to third, Freddie Freeman drove him in with a sacrifice fly. Max Muncy then launched a 416-foot solo home run into the right-field pavilion, giving the Dodgers an early 2-0 lead.
The Cardinals quickly responded in the top of the second when Nolan Gorman hit a two-run home run to tie the game.
However, the Dodgers offense continued to roll. In the bottom of the third, Betts hit a double, and Freeman moved him over with a groundout. Muncy then stepped up and crushed his second home run of the night, a two-run shot over the right-center field wall. Teoscar Hernandez followed with a solo blast to the left-field pavilion, making it back-to-back home runs and extending the lead.
Dodgers starting pitcher Emmet Sheehan had a solid outing, working his way out of trouble on several occasions. His final line was 5 innings pitched, allowing 4 hits and 2 runs with 1 walk and 5 strikeouts. Sheehan, who is continuing to impress since returning from Tommy John surgery, threw 76 pitches, 49 for strikes, and registered 9 swings-and-misses.
The Dodgers broke the game open in the seventh inning. After back-to-back walks to Ohtani and Betts, Muncy hit a ground ball to right field, scoring Ohtani. With runners on the corners, Hernandez hit his second home run of the night—a three-run shot to center field—giving the Dodgers a six-run cushion. Alex Freeland, who has been hot since his call-up, added an RBI single later in the inning to score Andy Pages and put the Dodgers in double digits.
The Dodgers would tack on two more runs in the bottom of the eighth, pushing their lead to seven. Anthony Banda came in for the final out of the ninth after Alexis Diaz allowed two runners on base, closing out the game.
Muncy’s two-homer, four-RBI performance provided the much-needed spark for the Dodgers offense. The team will look to carry this momentum into tomorrow’s early game as they try to win the three-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 PM PST and can be seen on SportsNet LA
