Dodgers Recap: May gets roughed up and Dodgers blow a 3 run lead to lose game one in extra innings

Game 24, 4/22/2025: Dodgers 10, Cubs 11

Wrigley Field, Chicago — After a series win in Texas, the Dodgers next stop is at Wrigley field to take on the Chicago Cubs. Tonight’s game, the Cubs faced RHP Dustin May and the Dodgers took on LHP Shota Imanaga. Both teams got off to a hot start scoring eight runs in the first inning.

In the first inning, Tommy Edman got the Dodgers on the board first with a three shot over the centerfield wall. The Cubs got off to a hot start. The first three batters roughed up May with hard hit shots that tied the game up. Cubs took advantage of May leaving most of his pitches in the zone that allowed for hard hit contact. After one inning, the Dodgers gave up the lead and trailed 5-3 after one inning.

The second inning, Andy Pages battled Imanaga after getting two quick strikes. Pages got a pitched to hit and crushed the ball 416 feet to leftfield that went into the upper deck. Dodgers got a run back after Page’s home run and trailed Chicago by one run. Chicago picked right up where they left off in the first. May gave up two soft hit balls in the outfield putting runners in scoring positions. May buckled down and sat down the next three batters with zero runs scored.

The Cubs take a three-run lead after Dustin May throws a meat pitch to Pete Crow-Armstrong giving up a two-run shot over the right field wall. May gave up a career high 7 earned runs in the five innings he pitched. May’s stats for the night 95P / 56S / 5IP / 10H / 7ER / 3BB / 5K / 1HR / 9 Swing and Misses.

After both starters out of the game, teams went to their bullpens. Banda got into a little trouble, but was bailed out by Andy Pages who caught a fly ball in left field and a 97-mph bullet to Will Smith to complete the double play at home plate.

In the top of the seventh, the Dodgers make a run to take the lead. Pages got a single up the middle to start it off. Ohtani and Betts both walk, Teoscar got on base with and error at third base that scored Pages. Freddie Freeman jumped on the first pitch with an opposite field double scoring Betts and Ohtani. Will Smith got his second hit of the night scoring Freeman. Smith is 11 for 14 with runners in scoring position so far this season. The Dodgers got 9 hits, 4 walks, and scored 5 runs in the top of the seventh to take the lead.

In the bottom of the ninth. Closer Tanner Scott gives up a two out home run to Miguel Amaya to tie the game up and head to extra innings. In the first pitch of the tenth. The Cubs walk it off and take the first game of the two game series.

Game two of the series starts at 4:00 PM PST. Chicago’s Matthew Boyd will take the mound as the Dodgers will have a bullpen game.
