Dodgers Recap: Rays Shut Out Dodgers in a promising Blake Snell Return
Game 111, 8/02/2025: Dodgers 0, Rays 4

Tampa Bay, FL – After 122 days on the injured list, Dodgers LHP Blake Snell made his highly anticipated return to the mound against his former team, the Tampa Bay Rays. Manager Dave Roberts had informed the media that Snell would be limited to six innings or ninety pitches.
The Rays got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning when leadoff batter Yandy Díaz launched his 19th home run of the season, an opposite-field shot to the shortest part of the park. Snell settled down, retiring the next three batters to escape the inning.
In the bottom of the third, Díaz struck again, taking Snell deep for another opposite-field two-run home run, his 20th of the year, extending the Rays’ lead to 3-0.
Blake Snell’s day concluded after five innings. His final line: 86 pitches (57 strikes), 5 IP, 5 hits, 3 earned runs, 0 walks, 8 strikeouts, and 2 home runs allowed. Despite giving up the two long balls, Snell’s outing showed promising signs in his first game back with the Dodgers.
In the bottom of the sixth, Junior Caminero further widened the gap for the Rays, taking reliever Jack Dreyer deep with a solo home run to center field, putting Tampa Bay up by four runs.
The Dodgers offense struggled mightily, getting shut out by the Rays and managing zero runs for Snell’s return. They dropped a disappointing loss, splitting the three-game series 1-1 with the Rays. The offense continued to rack up high strikeout numbers.
Tomorrow marks another early start for West Coast fans, with first pitch scheduled for 9:10 AM PST, broadcast on SportsNet LA.
