Game 76, 6/19/24: Dodgers 6, Rockies 7

Denver, CO — No one likes losing in walk-off fashion, but that was the result that occurred today at Coors Field. Today was Bobby Miller‘s first start since being activated from the IL and he was thrown immediately into the fire in offense-happy Coors Field. Still, he went pretty far in his retur, putting up a final line line of 6.1 IP, 6 H, 5 ER, 3 BB, and 2 K. But it wasn’t enough as the Dodgers would drop this one 7-6 in this back-and-forth matchup.

Miller ran into some trouble early as he gave up a 3-run homer in the 1st inning to Michael Toglia to give Colorado an early 3-0 lead. The Dodgers answered back in the top half of the 2nd as a Gavin Lux single, Cavan Biggio free pass, and Kike Hernandez walk set the table up for Shohei Ohtani to crush a bases-clearing RBI double to tie the game at three all. Freddie Freeman wanted to partake in the fun as he singled in a run to finish up the four spot in the 2nd.

Sean Bouchard came through for the Rox in the 4th with an RBI groundout allowed Toglia to score, and Colorado tied the score. Last night’s pinch-hitting hero, Jason Heyward, decided to provide more help on the offensive front as he doubled in a pair of Dodgers to put LA up 6-4 in the 5th.

It was all Rockies from here on out as their comeback started in the 7th. Elehuris Montero reached on a Cavan Biggio bobble at third base that allowed Bouchard to score and cut their deficit to one. Next batter Brenton Doyle would hit a sacrifice fly that would tie this matchup at six.

With close calls here and there, it was Doyle who ultimately put the Dodgers away in the bottom of the ninth with a walk-off sacrifice fly off Yaohan Ramirez and the Rockies won 7-6.

The Dodgers drop game three of this four-game series and look for the series win tomorrow at 12:10 PM PT. Gavin Stone is taking the bump for the Dodgers while left-hander Ty Blach will take the mound for the Rockies. Tough loss today Dodgers fans, but we’ll get the Rockies and take the series tomorrow!
