Dodgers Recap: Snakebit!

PHOENIX, AZ — Yeesh. That was about as bad a weekend of Dodger baseball that I can recall seeing. After Kershaw got beat on Friday, the D-backs dropped 12 runs on the Dodgers on Saturday, and then threw up an eleven-spot on Sunday. The pitching was awful. There isn’t much else to say. Michael Grove was throwing batting practice to the D-backs out there, got roughed up for nine earned runs in 3.1 innings. Dodger fans, here’s a tip: if you give up nine runs in 3.1 innings, you ain’t winning too many baseball games.

Austin Barnes was the hero of the game, cuz he was the only one smart enough to get himself ejected from this train wreck of a game. J.D. Martinez had a nice game, with two hits, two runs scored and two batted in, but everything else was pretty meh on Sunday.

It was a horrible end to an awful weekend. On to San Francisco.

Short hops

  • D-backs look for real.
  • Thank God for Shelby Miller and Phil Bickford, to finally put up some zeros.
  • Compared to Arizona, the Dodgers looked old and slow, like they were playing last year’s version of baseball.
  • Dodgers will try to regroup and get back on track in San Francisco, where they will face the Giants, who are having their own struggles getting on track this season, starting the year 4-5.
  • Come back, Tony Gonsolin, come back soon!
Yuck!

Steve Webb

A lifelong baseball fan, Webb has been going to Dodger games since he moved to Los Angeles in 1987. His favorite memory was sitting in an apartment in October 1988 when Gibby went yard against Eckersley in the World Series. Which came about ten minutes after he declared “this game is over!” Hopefully, his baseball acumen has improved since then. He has been writing for Dodgersbeat since 2020.
