Dodgers Recap: Sticky Situation ends in loss to Mets

CHAVEZ RAVINE, CA — Stop me if you’ve heard this before. The Dodgers’ bullpen gave up three late runs and the Dodgers lost the game by two.

Doh!

Wrecking a perfectly serviceable, if not great, start from Noah Syndergaard, the Dodgers just couldn’t generate enough offense to overcome the tack-on runs at the end of the game. Another game without Will Smith results in another quiet night at the plate. And even though the team got some nice production from the young guns Outman and Vargas, there just wasn’t enough there there in this this one.

However, the big news of the game was the ejection of former Dodger Max Scherzer, who got tossed after multiple inspections kept coming up less than clean for Mad Max, much to his protestations to the contrary.

“There was an adjustment,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said of the sudden departure of Scherzer. “Obviously, when you get somebody else outside of Max Scherzer, you like your chances, but unfortunately, we couldn’t capitalize.”

The Dodgers have been doing a whole lot of not capitalizing these days.

Cans of corn…

  • Dodgers had to have like what Syndergaard did in this one: 6.0 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 K. And and L.
  • This time it was Alex Vesia, Yency Almonte, Justin Briuhl, and Shelby Miller in the pen. Only Briuhl had a clean outing. 6 hits and two runs over three innings.
  • Bullpen ERA is now 24th in the big leagues at 5.01. Youch!
  • Getting mighty thin at shortstop these days. Where have you gone, Gavin Lux, a nation turns it’s lonely eyes to you.
  • Ending the home stand at 2-4. Sub-optimal.
  • On to Chicago. Let’s take a series from Belli & Co. and get back on track. Michael Grove with the 4:40 start.
9-10
