Game 101, 7/22/2024: Dodgers 3, Giants 2

CHAVEZ RAVINE, CA — Pay Teo all the money now. In a season where Dodger hitters have struggled with runners in scoring position, Teoscar Herndandez has been the exception, coming through time and time again in big situations. Monday’s opening against the San Francisco Giants was no different. In a thrilling game at Dodger Stadium, the Dodgers emerged victorious over their rivals , 3-2, thanks to clutch hitting by outfielder Teoscar Hernandez and a strong start from River Ryan, who was making his big league debut.

The game began with Ryan showcasing his talent on the mound. Despite some early pressure, including a walk to Jorge Soler and a single by LaMonte Wade Jr., Ryan kept his composure and managed to navigate through the inning without allowing a run. His performance continued to impress throughout his outing, as he consistently retired Giants hitters, finishing with a solid stat line that included several key strikeouts.

Teoscar Hernandez played a pivotal role in the Dodgers’ offense. After the Giants got on the board in the top of the 4th on a Will Smith passed ball, Hernandez made a significant impact in the bottom of the frame by launching a solo home run to left field, tying the game at 1-1. Against Dodger nemesis Blake Snell, Teo clobbered a down-and-in slider, sending it halfway up the pavillion for a game-tying dinger, the 21st of the season.

Meanwhile, other than the unearned run in the fourth, River Ryan looked very good in this one. Composed and in command of his arsenal, Ryan managed to complete 5.1 innings before giving way to the bullpen in the top of the sixth. His line for the night was impressive: 5.1 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 2 K. Well done, young man.

Though he exited with the game tied, Ryan was able to watch his Dodgers secure the victory thanks to the show from Teoscar Hernandez. His bat came alive once again in the bottom of the sixth inning when he delivered a sharp line drive to center field, driving in Freddie Freeman and giving the Dodgers a 2-1 lead.

The Giants fought back in the top of the seventh with a solo home run by Tyler Fitzgerald off Ryan Yarbrough, leveling the score at 2-2. However, Teo wasn’t done yet. In the bottom of the eighth, with Kike Hernandez on third base and two outs, Hernandez came through once more with a clutch single to center field, putting the Dodgers ahead 3-2, and there the score would stay for the rest of the evening.

Daniel Hudson took the mound in the ninth inning to close out the game. Despite allowing a walk, he struck out two batters and secured the final out with a fly ball caught by Hernandez in left field, sealing the win for the Dodgers.

River Ryan’s impressive debut and Teoscar Hernandez’s timely hitting were crucial in this hard-fought victory, demonstrating the Dodgers’ resilience and depth.
