Dodgers Rumors: Danny Lehmann Emerging as Braves’ Top Choice for Manager Vacancy

Dodgers bench coach Danny Lehmann could be on the move after the World Series

TORONTO—While the Los Angeles Dodgers gear up for another World Series, which will kick off tomorrow in Toronto against the American League Champion Blue Jays, the offseason rumors are in full swing with the end of the 2025 season a little over a week away.

At the end of the regular season, eight teams were in search of a new manager. Two of those spots got filled this week with the San Francisco Giants hiring college baseball coach Tony Vitello and the Los Angeles Angels hiring former big league catcher Kurt Suzuki; still, that leaves six open vacancies remaining, including the Atlanta Braves.

The Atlanta Braves have been searching for a new manager for about three weeks. According to a recent report by MLB.com’s Mark Bowman, the team might have narrowed their options to three finalists, one of whom is Danny Lehmann, the current bench coach for the Dodgers.

“As for Dodgers bench coach Danny Lehmann, his candidacy has seemingly strengthened over the past couple weeks. Lehmann was Los Angeles’ advance video scout when Anthopoulos was with the Dodgers from 2016-17. The two have remained in contact over the years that have followed.”

Bowman also listed Chicago Cubs bench coach Ryan Flaherty and Tigers bench coach George Lombard as potential candidates, but the odds seem to lean more favorably to Lehmann.

Lehmann has followed an unconventional route to become a major league bench coach, progressing from a video coordinator (2015-17) to a game-planning coach (2018-22), then to a role with the team in uniform, and finally to bench coach in 2023. The Dodgers, of course, aim to secure back-to-back World Series titles and their third in six seasons.

With the amount of open jobs on the market and the success the Dodgers have had over the last 13 seasons, it’s expected that there will be some shakeup in the dugout as teams look to find a new direction for their club, and what better team to try and match than the Dodgers?
