Dodgers Rumors: Dodgers Checking in On Bo Bichette

According to Jon Heyman, the Dodgers are among several teams to check in on free agent Bo Bichette.

LOS ANGELES, CA—As the Los Angeles Dodgers enter the New Year, they’ll now be tasked over the next two months with putting the final touches on their roster in their quest to become the first three-peat champion in over 25 years.

So far this offseason, the Dodgers have been relatively quiet compared to the last two winters, with their only signings being All-Star closer Edwin Díaz to a three-year deal and re-signing World Series hero veteran infielder Miguel Rojas to a one-year contract.

Aside from those two moves, it has been marginal in the minor leagues, on the 40-man roster adjustments, and in the typical Hot Stove rumor mill.

Entering the offseason, the Dodgers had few roster needs to address, mainly the bullpen (hence the Díaz signing) and the outfield, which now has an open spot (since Michael Conforto and Kiké Hernández are free agents). There is also hope that Teoscar Hernández will not remain in right field this upcoming season.

That, in turn, has led the Dodgers to be linked to several key players on the open market, whether through trade or free agency, including Steven Kwan, Cody Bellinger, and Kyle Tucker, the top position player available.

While the thought of the Dodgers adding to their infield has been discussed by multiple fan sites and blogs, we now have a report from Jon Heyman of the New York Post that the Dodgers have checked in on Bo Bichette’s market.

“Three previously unreported teams have checked on superstar Bo Bichette: Yankees, Dodgers, and Cubs.”

During the 2025 campaign, Bichette finished with a .311 batting average, 18 home runs, and 94 RBIs. Over his seven seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays, he has a career average of .294, along with 111 home runs, 437 RBIs, and 60 stolen bases. Bichette has earned All-Star honors twice.

While his defense is not his strength, Bichette showed his versatility down the stretch for the Blue Jays, filling in at second base during the World Series and remaining open to a possible full-time move to the hot corner, which would broaden his market.

Dodgers General Manager Brandon Gomes already confirmed that Mookie Betts would return to shortstop for 2026, which was expected, as the former Gold Glove right fielder was a finalist for the award in his first full year at the position, despite the dip in offensive metrics.

The second base mix now features KBO import Hyeseong Kim, prospect Alex Freeland, and the recently re-signed Miguel Rojas. Tommy Edman might also be considered when he’s not in the outfield. Even without a clear standout among these players, there are likely enough options for Los Angeles to cover the position effectively without needing a significant addition like Bichette.

Then you have to look beyond the 2026 season for the Dodgers, as the team lacks a long-term option at third base. Veteran power bat Max Muncy is set to become an unrestricted free agent after this upcoming season, and at 35, we could see the Dodgers look for better options.

FanGraphs has Bichette projected to net a 7-year, $189 million deal ($27 million AAV). Still, the longer he sits on the open market, he could possibly be open to a short-term deal with opt-outs like Alex Bregman signed last winter with Boston.

Personally, the idea of adding Bichette makes more sense for the Dodgers than Kyle Tucker, as while his defense isn’t nearly as good, he’s younger and can fill multiple needs on the Dodgers agi’ aging infield in the future.
