Dodgers Rumors: Dodgers Expected to Pursue Kyle Tucker in Free Agency
The offseason is approaching, and the Dodgers are connected to another top free agent, outfielder Kyler Tucker

LOS ANGELES, CA—The final set of the 2025 Major League Baseball season is getting underway, with the Los Angeles Dodgers heading back to the Fall Classic after sweeping the best-of-seven National League Championship Series over the No.1-seeded Milwaukee Brewers.
While the Dodgers wait to find out which team they’ll face from the American League — either the Seattle Mariners or the Toronto Blue Jays — the offseason is quickly approaching, even though the World Series is set to start this Friday.
That said, we have our first major rumor involving the Dodgers’ offseason plans, and according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, those plans may involve top free agent Kyle Tucker.
The news is not unexpected, as the Dodgers often pursue the top free agents. They notably signed Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto in the 2023-24 offseason. Although they didn’t secure young star Juan Soto last winter, despite being a finalist, they continued to invest heavily, signing players like Blake Snell, Roki Sasaki, Tanner Scott, and other players through signings and re-signings.
Despite their impressive performance this year, the Dodgers have a notable weakness in their outfield production. Andy Pages (113 wRC+) has established himself as a solid regular in center field.
Teoscar Hernandez (102 wRC+) experienced a notable decline last year compared to his debut season in Los Angeles. Meanwhile, the Michael Conforto experiment did not succeed, as he only posted an 83 wRC+ with a negative WAR over 138 games, which led to him being excluded from the postseason roster. With Conforto hitting free agency this winter, a vacancy in Los Angeles’ outfield could be an opportunity for Tucker to make a strong impact.
Tucker, 28, a four-time All-Star, is widely regarded as this winter’s top free agent. He emerged with the Astros in 2021, and over five seasons, he has posted an impressive .277/.365/514 line (143 wRC+).
At that point, Tucker was poised to be part of the discussions about whether he would join Ohtani, Soto, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in securing a contract worth over $500 million this winter.
However, his performance declined in the second half. Tucker spent two periods on the injured list and posted a batting line of .225/.348/.342 in 53 games from July 1 onward, ending the year with 22 home runs in 136 games—a total fewer than the 23 homers he hit in just 78 games during his injury-abbreviated 2024 season.
Still, it’s expected that multiple big market teams will be in on the former All-Star, and Heyman notes that while the possibility of a major payday like Juan Soto or Vlad Jr. is out of the question, he could still fetch a hefty price.
Heyman also indicates that the Red Sox, Phillies, and Giants might be interested in acquiring Tucker, although none of these teams is as clear a fit as Los Angeles.
And if you’re wondering, no, Kyle Tucker’s agent is not Scott Boras. While the Dodgers have been reluctant to sign Boras clients in the past, they did sign lefty Blake Snell, a Boras client, to a multi-year contract just last offseason.
Another interesting route the Dodgers could take with Tucker, due to his second-half slump and missing out on a significant payday, is the possibility of a front-loaded short-term deal with an opt-out after the first season, which would give the Dodgers another All-Star player for the 2026 season and allow Tucker to test free agency again.
Still, this isn’t the first time the Dodgers have been connected to Tucker this season, as MLB insider Bob Nightengale of USA Today Sports also shared a similar report at the beginning of the season, and I’m sure it won’t be the last time the two sides are linked.
