Dodgers Rumors: Dodgers Reportedly Acquire Will Klein from Mariners in Exchange for Joe Jacques

*The Los Angeles Dodgers have made the deal official; RHP Will Klein from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for minor league pitcher Joe Jacques. The Dodgers also recalled right-handed Ryan Loutos and optioned RHP Noah Davis. To make room on the roster for Klein, the Dodgers designated RHP Chris Stratton for assignment.
LOS ANGELES, CA— The Los Angeles Dodgers have reportedly traded away Joe Jacques to the Seattle Mariners, per Joel Sherman of the New York Post.
The reported return for the Dodgers is right-handed pitcher Will Klein, per Ari Alexander, who was DFA’d by the Mariners yesterday.
Klein was on the Mariners’ 40-man roster while Jacques was not on the Dodgers’, meaning that Los Angeles will have to create a spot on its 40-man roster before any deal is made official.
Klein has just 7 1/3 innings of major league experience, all of which came last year. He allowed nine earned runs in that time. This year, he’s been in Triple-A and has posted a 7.17 ERA at that level with a strong 30.5% strikeout rate and a massive 18.1% walk rate.
The Dodges’ need for another option in the bullpen is great. The team will be without righty Evan Phillips for the entire season, as he’ll undergo Tommy John surgery on June 4th.
Los Angeles will also be without veteran right-handed relief pitcher Luis García, who was placed on the 15-day injured list before yesterday’s Sunday finale against the New York Yankees with a shoulder injury.
