Dodgers Rumors: Dodgers Reportedly Sign José Ureña

LOS ANGELES, CA—Prior to tonight’s game against the New York Mets, the Los Angeles Dodgers reportedly signed free agent right-handed pitcher José Ureña to a Major League contract, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.
Ureña will report to the Dodgers today and be added to their 26-man roster; however, before that, the team will have to create a spot for the righty on the 40-man roster.
Ureña, 33, just elected free agency yesterday. He’d been with the Blue Jays since early May and pitched well for them, but he was DFA’d on Saturday when Toronto needed a fresh arm for its pitching staff.
The righty managed 109 innings across thirty-three appearances (nine starts) with the Rangers last year, turning in a 3.80 ERA despite a below-average 15.1% strikeout rate.
However, Ureña posted a 5.87 ERA in 15.1 innings this season with the New York Mets and Toronto Blue Jays and will provide the Dodgers with a fresh arm as they play thirteen games in thirteen days.
The Dodgers rotation and bullpen have been hit hard by the injury bug. With no starter announced for the fourth game against the Mets on Thursday, the Dodgers want multiple arms available, hence the signing of Ureña and promotion of righty Ryan Loutos yesterday.
Ureña has no minor league option remaining, so when arms such as Michael Kopech return, I don’t anticipate him being around for long.
