Dodgers Rumors: Dodgers Sign Andy Ibáñez to 1-Year Deal

The Dodgers continue to add to their infield depth, this time signing former Tigers infielder Andy Ibáñez

LOS ANGELES, CA—So far this offseason, the Los Angeles Dodgers have only made two major league moves, re-signing veteran utility infielder Miguel Rojas to a 1-year, $5.5 million deal and All-Star closer Edwin Díaz to a 3-year, $69 million contract in December.

However, according to Francys Romero, that is soon to change as the team has re-signed utility infielder Andy Ibáñez to a 1-year deal for the 2026 season.

Ibáñez, 32, is the second utility infielder the Dodgers have acquired today as the team offically announced their claim of former Minnesota Twins shortstop Ryan Fitzgerald earlier this afternoon.

While Fitzgerald was DFA’d over a week ago, Ibáñez was non-tendered by the Detroit Tigers before the non-tender deadline in November and is out of minor league options.

Ibáñez had spent the last three seasons in Detroit, where he slashed .251/.304/.392 with 20 home runs, 96 runs, 94 RBI, and a 93 wRC+ in 304 games, but spent two seasons with the Texas Rangers in 2021 and 2022.

Nevertheless, Ibáñez delivered two strong offensive seasons in 2021 and 2023, but has been well below league average since then. The Dodgers might think they can improve his hitting and turn him into a valuable bench player.

Throughout his Major League career, Ibáñez has occupied every position except catcher and center field, though his main roles have been second and third base.

However, after the Dodgers made the move for Fitzgerald official, the team’s 40-man roster is now full, so in order to make the Ibáñez deal final, they’ll need to clear a spot on the 40-man roster.

As for the Dodgers’ aggressiveness today for infield depth, it makes sense as utilityman Tommy Edman is likely to have his season delayed after undergoing offseason ankle surgery, and should they re-sign fan-favorite Kiké Hernández, he won’t be ready to start the season after offseason elbow surgery.
