Dodgers Rumors: Dodgers to Promote Alexis Díaz

MILWAUKEE, WI— According to Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic, the Los Angeles Dodgers are reportedly recalling former All-Star closer Alexis Díaz from Triple-A OKC.
Díaz, 28, was acquired by the Dodgers in late May after the ’23 National League All-Star was optioned to Triple-A by the Cincinnati Reds after continuing to struggle this season.
After making an All-Star appearance during the 2023 season in which the then 26-year-old closer collected thirty-seven saves along with a 3.07 ERA and 11.5 K/9, it has been a downhill ride.
After allowing eight runs in six innings pitched, the Reds not only took the closer away from the now 28-year-old but also optioned Díaz to Triple-A on May 1st.
To make matters worse for Díaz, after starting out the season on the 15-day injured list with a right hamstring strain has been pitching with a career-low 93 mph average fastball velocity. He currently has more walks (five) and home runs allowed (four) than strikeouts (three).
Díaz continued working with the Dodgers pitching coaches in the minor leagues, hoping they could right the ship on his career.
However, so far with the OKC Comets, the right-hander is 0-1 with a 9.64 ERA in 4.2 innings.
While the move has yet to be officially announced by the team, all signs likely point to Díaz taking Julian Fernandez‘s spot on the roster. Fernandez made his Dodger debut in yesterday’s blowout loss.
Díaz is already on the team’s 40-man roster, so just a 26-man roster move will have to be made today.
