Dodgers Rumors: Esteury Ruiz Joining Dodgers with Muncy Undergoing Testing

LOS ANGELES, CA— In the wake of Max Muncy‘s left knee injury, the Los Angeles Dodgers are reportedly calling up minor league outfielder Esteury Ruiz from Triple-A OKC, per Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

Ruiz, 26, was acquired via trade in April after being DFA’d by the Athletics and was the 2023 American League leader in stolen bases with sixty-seven.

In his only full big league season, Ruiz slashed .254/.309/.345 with five homers, forty-seven RBIs, and forty-seven runs scored as a rookie with the A’s in 2023. But the A’s had a surplus of outfielders on their hands in 2024, many of whom had more offensive upside, and Ruiz only appeared in twenty-nine Major League games, also missing time with wrist and knee injuries.

Since joining the OKC Comets, Ruiz has slashed .292/.394/.458 with a .852 OPS, eight home runs, thirty-eight RBIs, and thirty-nine stolen bases in sixty-six games.

The right-handed bat will likely be the Dodgers’ stop-gap option on the 26-man roster until the team has further information on Max Muncy’s injured knee.

Muncy is set to undergo an MRI today, and we should know more before tonight’s game during Dodgers manager Dave Roberts‘ pregame media scrum.
