Dodgers Rumors: Hernández Reportedly Seeking 3-Year Deal; LA Rumored to Have Offered 2-Year Deal

We are a week removed from the Major League Baseball Winter Meetings in Dallas, Texas, and despite the Los Angeles Dodgers inking both Michael Conforto and Blake Treinen to contracts for the 2025 season, fan-favorite Teoscar Hernández still remains unsigned.

Multiple Major League Baseball insiders reported last week that the Dodgers and Teoscar Hernández were close to a reunion. Los Angeles Dodgers insider David Vassegh stated that the two sides were just nailing out the final numbers in dollars and years.

Fast-forward to today, and both parties have been unable to reach an agreement, although it is a league-wide opinion that the two sides will eventually agree to a contract to bring Teoscar Hernández back in Dodger Blue for the 2025 season and beyond.

However, Teoscar Hernández’s reported contract offer from the Dodgers and his camp’s asking price has reportedly been leaked.

According to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, Hernández is seeking a three-year deal worth between $22 million and $24 million a year. Feinsand also insisted that despite the Dodgers’ tremendous interest in re-signing Teoscar, the Boston Red Sox and the Toronto Blue Jays are ready to pounce on the right-handed slugger if talks fall through with Los Angeles.

Yet another report about the Los Angeles Dodgers report was also mentioned by Lee Hacksaw Hamilton, a Sports Anchor at CW6 San Diego.

Hamilton stated that, according to his sources, the Dodgers had offered Teoscar Hernández a 2-year, $60 million deal, but he could not mention whether the deal included a signing bonus or any deferrals.

If true, this likely explains why the sides have not agreed to any contract yet, as it seems the money is not the hookup but the commitment of years Los Angeles and Andrew Freidman are willing to offer.

Why does Los Angeles only want to commit to two more years of Teoscar Hernández, you say? Well, it’s a complicated answer, but I’d guess it’s down to two main factors: age and financial optionality.

If the Dodgers are able to get Hernández locked up for a two-year contract, that would fall in line with the end of Freddie Freeman‘s contract and Tyler Glasnow‘s club option, which would result in around $90M from the 3 of Glasnow, Hernández, & Freeman coming off the books after the 2027 season.

Another factor is Hernández’s age, as the righty will be entering his age thirty-two season, and historically speaking, players of his caliber do not age well into their mid-late thirties.

Despite this impasse right now, in a recent interview on the Bleed Los Podcast YouTube channel, we had the opportunity to ask Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, who stated, “Things are close” regarding the Teoscar Hernández negotiations.
