Dodgers Rumors: Kopech Undergoes Knee Surgery
Kopech was transferred to the 60-day IL yesterday

MILWAUKEE, WI— Prior to yesterday’s series finale against the Milwaukee Brewers, the Los Angeles Dodgers had to announce multiple roster moves, including the activation of right-handed pitcher Tyler Glasnow off the 60-day injured list.
The first move was the demotion of former All-Star closer Alexis Díaz, who did not make an appearance in his brief stint with the Dodgers in Milwaukee.
The next move was more surprising. Since Glasnow was on the 60-day injured list, the Dodgers had to add the righty back to the 40-man roster. The corresponding move was the transfer of right-hander Michael Kopech to the 60-day injured list.
The move is shocking, considering that upon his placement on the 15-day injured list during the Dodgers’ last homestand, Kopech and Roberts did not expect to miss much time.
However, it wasn’t until after the game that we got more clarity on the situation.
According to Bill Plunkett of the Southern California News Group, Kopech underwent surgery for a torn meniscus in his right knee. However, the right-hander is still expected to pitch again this season.
With Kopech’s placement on the 60-day injured list, the earliest activation date would be August 27th, which would fall in line with Kopech likely to miss six to eight weeks after the operation.
Either way, it’s a massive blow to a Dodgers bullpen that is desperate for swing and miss stuff in the late innings of ballgames. The injury could force the front office’s hand to swing a trade at the deadline.
