Dodgers Rumors: Recently DFA’d Zach Penrod has been Traded to Los Angeles

*The deal is now official: The Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired left-handed pitcher Zach Penrod from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for cash considerations. To make room on the 40-man roster Roki Sasaki was transferred to the 60-day IL.*
LOS ANGELES, CA—According to Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com, the Los Angeles Dodgers have reportedly acquired Zach Penrod from the Boston Red Sox.
Penrod, 28, was recently DFA’d by the Red Sox earlier this week in the wake of the Rafael Devers blockbuster, as they were acquiring two 40-man players (Jordan Hicks, Kyle Harrison) and only trading away one.
The lefty made his Major League debut last season with the Red Sox, holding a 2.25 ERA across seven appearances in the Red Sox bullpen.
So far this season, Penrod has been exclusively in the minor league bullpen. He’s not yet made an appearance at the big league level this year and has a 4.91 ERA in 7.1 innings of work at Triple-A.
Penrod was in the mix for a bullpen spot heading into the 2025 season, but an elbow injury in spring training knocked him out for nearly three months. He returned to the mound in late May.
The Dodgers taking a chance comes as no surprise due to the constant state of the pitching staff, an injury-plagued starting rotation, and a bullpen that has pitched the most innings in Major League Baseball.
Penrod will give the Dodgers a hard-throwing lefty with clear bat-missing ability. Unlike the other arms the Dodgers have taken a chance on, he has a full set of minor league options to use.
Penrod will need to be added to the Dodgers 40-man roster which is now full after the promotion of right-handed pitcher Jack Little.
