Dodgers Rumors: Shohei Ohtani to Start Game Seven of the World Series

Ohtani will start Game Seven of the World Series on three days rest

TORONTO—The Los Angeles Dodgers were on the brink of elimination before a thrilling 3-1 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays in Game Six of the World Series has now forced a winner-take-all Game Seven, and they’ll start their best player, Shohei Ohtani.

According to The Athletic, the Dodgers are rumored to start the game off with Ohtani on short rest in a yet-to-be-determined inning limit, with right-hander Tyler Glasnow and possibly left-hander Blake Snell waiting in the wings in the bullpen.

Initially, Ohtani could stay in the game as a DH after leaving the mound. If he were to come in as a reliever, MLB’s two-way player rule wouldn’t apply. He could stay in the game after pitching only if he shifted to a different position on the field, and in that case, the Dodgers would lose the DH.

Ohtani holds a 3.50 ERA through three postseason starts for the Dodgers. He delivered six scoreless innings with 10 strikeouts against the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Championship Series. In World Series Game 4, he pitched six innings but allowed four earned runs. He threw 93 pitches in that game and was set to pitch again on short rest in Game Seven.

Ohtani finished 1-for-3 with a walk and a double in Game 6. His mere presence influences games, yet by his usual standards, he has been relatively subdued. In Game Three, which went 18 innings, he reached base nine times and hit two home runs.

It’s appropriate that Ohtani will now pitch in a winner-takes-all game against one of this generation’s top pitchers.
