Dodgers Rumors: Will Smith Will Be on Wild Card Roster

Will Smith, who is dealing with a right hand fracture will be active for the Wild Card Series, per Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic

LOS ANGELES, CA—The Los Angeles Dodgers, who are set to begin a three-game Wild Card Series tonight at Dodger Stadium against the Cincinnati Reds, are expected to activate Will Smith, according to Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic.

Smith, 30, has played just one game since September 3rd after suffering a right-hand injury on the Dodgers’ final East Coast road trip in Pittsburgh.

Initially, what was thought to be only a bone bruise turned out to be a microfracture in his right hand after a second set of scans.

The Dodgers placed Smith on the injured list with the hopes that the time off would make him ready for the postseason.

With the Dodgers only securing the number three seed in the National League, their postseason games got started earlier than they initially hoped, putting Will Smith’s activation in doubt.

Yesterday, during the Dodgers team workout, Smith was participating in live at-bats, and if all goes well, he’d be considered a spot on the Dodgers Wild Card roster.

Well, that seems to be the case, according to Ardaya’s reports, Smith will be active tonight.

However, Smith will be one of three catchers the team will keep on the roster, joining rookie Dalton Rushing and new fan-favorite Ben Rortvedt.

Smith will be active but expected to be only available in a pinch-hitting role.
