Dodgers Shine Bright with Five All-Star Selections

LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Dodgers will be well-represented at the 2025 MLB All-Star Game, with five players earning selections to join baseball’s brightest stars in Atlanta, Georgia. Leading the group are designated hitter Shohei Ohtani, the top vote-getter in the National League, and Clayton Kershaw, who was chosen as a Commissioner’s Legend Pick to honor his Hall of Fame career.

Ohtani, making his second All-Star appearance as a Dodger, continues to impress at the plate. He leads the NL in home runs and slugging percentage through the first half. Although he has pitched this year, the two-way superstar will attend as a hitter only, batting .279/.383/.647 with 31 home runs and a 177 OPS+.

Joining Ohtani in the starting lineup is first baseman Freddie Freeman, who earns his ninth career All-Star nod. Once again, Freeman has proven to be one of the league’s most consistent hitters, anchoring the Dodgers’ offense with a .299 batting average, .368 on-base percentage, 10 home runs, and a 139 OPS+.

Behind the plate, Will Smith has earned a well-deserved spot as the National League’s starting catcher. Widely regarded as one of the best all-around backstops in the game, Smith is enjoying a career year. He enters the break batting .326 with a .430 OBP, 12 home runs, and a 176 OPS+. His leadership and elite pitch framing have been key to the Dodgers’ success.

On the mound, Yoshinobu Yamamoto earns his first All-Star selection after an impressive start to his MLB career. The Japanese right-hander has smoothly adapted to the big leagues, posting a sub-3.00 ERA over 97 innings while demonstrating elite command and poise. He will ultimately be unavailable for the game because he pitches two days before the All-Star game, making him ineligible to play. Reds pitcher Andrew Abbott has replaced him on the roster.

Perhaps the most emotional recognition goes to longtime ace Clayton Kershaw, who was honored as a Commissioner’s Legend Pick. A future Hall of Famer, Kershaw earns his 11th All-Star nod in what could be his final season. The league selected him to recognize his remarkable career and enduring impact on the sport.

The 2025 MLB All-Star Game will take place on July 15 at Truist Park in Atlanta, Georgia.
