Dodgers Recap: Wrobleski Impresses, Miller Brothers Meet, But Dodgers Bats Fall Quiet vs. Cubs

Spring Training Game 8, 2/28/2026 (split squad): Dodgers 2, Cubs 6

CAMELBACK RANCH, AZ — The Dodgers had two split squad games on Saturday, with half the team hanging around the Ranch to welcome the Cubbies, and the other half heading over to Surprise to take on the Texas Rangers. In this post, we’re going to be talking about the game with Chicago. For the squad that stayed put at CBR, it was a pretty sleepy Saturday: only a handful of hits in a 6-2 loss to the Chicago Cubs (No PCA sightings).

Since the offense was pretty nonexistent (Freddie was 1-for-3, but no other regular lineup guys got on base), let’s talk about Saturday’s pitchers. Justin Wrobleski opened the game and pitched two strong, scoreless innings. He could be a rotation dark horse if his good pitching continues. After Wrobo, Edwin Diaz came on for the third. In his second outing of the spring, he struggle with command a bit, walking a pair of Cubs. However, he left the two baserunners stranded, aided by a sweet double play. The third appearance of note was that of Tanner Scott, who also hung a zero on the scoreboard, although he did give up one Chicago hit. Still, good stuff from the oft-maligned lefty.

The Cubs got a run in the fifth and another in the seventh before they broke it open late with two runs in the eighth and ninth. The Dodgers got a couple of cheap runs on a bases-loaded walk and a passed ball in the bottom of the ninth to avoid getting skunked.

The game had a nice “moment” before the first pitch when Dodgers’ infielder Noah Miller handled the lineup card exchange with his older brother, Cubs utility player Owen Miller.

Brotherly Exchange: Noah (L) and Owen Miller met at home plate prior to today’s game. I’m sure their mom was pleased.

Back to “normal” on Sunday, with just one game on the schedule. And it’s our first repeat opponent of the spring: the California Angels. After completely pasting the Angels in the Cactus League opener last week, the Dodgers welcome the Halos to Camelback Ranch for a rematch. Landon Knack gets the ball for the Dodgers. As usual, we have a 12:05 first pitch. See you there!
