Slump Woes: What’s Happened to the Dodgers?

The best offense is a good defense and in the case of the Dodgers, none have been working at all.

Over the last few days, the offensive juggernauts from Los Angeles have been everything but the star-studded team. The series against the Giants showed early season woes.

“It’s getting more clear that we’re not doing enough to win baseball games. We’re too talented,” -Dave Roberts

The slacking offense has been a repeat detriment during the season, rearing its head during both Pittsburgh series. The top 3,: Betts, Freeman and Turner have slowed down a bit since, as has the starting pitching rotation. The loss of Buehler strikes a major blow and the constant lack of offense during Julio Urias’ starts continue to put down an already beaten team.

With the team sitting at 37-23, they have another major test with the Freeway Series against the Angels this week. The Angels, coming off a 14 game losing streak, are still a threat regardless. Ohtani and Trout are a solid 1-2 punch combination that could reignite any day.

The Dodgers’ dugout is full of former All Stars, but who will make the cut in 2022?

While it may be just a small sample size of trouble, a team of this caliber, full of former All-Stars, Gold Glovers and Silver Sluggers should not be struggling in key matchups and key situations against teams with much less star power. As the trade deadline looms, it is unknown if the Dodgers plan on making any subtractions or additions to their bolstering lineup.
