Dodgers Farm: LA’s system has highs & lows this weekend

All four Dodgers affiliates had games this Mother’s Day weekend. There was some high points and a few lows in the farm system.

Oklahoma traveled to Sugar Land Texas to take on the Space Cowboys in a six-game series. RHP Landon Knack took the mound for game six to even the series 3-3, Knack went 5.1IP / 5H / 4ER / 3BB / 5K / 4.15ERA. 3B Andre Lipcius hits his 9th and 10th HR and LF Miguel Vargas continued to hit doubles and crushed his second grand slam of the season. SS Trey Sweeney continued his hitting ways and RF Austin Gauthier hit his fifth HR. RHP Elieser Hernandez had one of his best outings of the season, 5.2IP / 3H / 1ER / 1BB / 8K / 2.83 ERA.

Tulsa X

The Tulsa Drillers traveled to Midland Texas to take on the Rockhounds in a six-game series. Tulsa loses the first three games before getting their first win of series on Friday. RHP Hyun-iL Choi pitched a good game for Tulsa’s first win. Choi went 5.1IP / 6H / 2ER / 1BB / 6SO / 6.92ERA. Tulsa received the worst loss of the season on Saturday losing 14-0. The big news was C Diego Cartaya’s big game on Sunday. Cartaya crushed a HR to left center field and hit a line drive double to left field ending the day with 3H / 1BB / 1HR / 3RBI. LHP Justin Wrobleski pitched a strong game giving Tulsa the win for the final game of the series. Wrobleski pitched 5.0IP / 5H / 3ER / 6K / 4.76ERA. Tulsa dropped the series 2-4 and travels home to take on Wichita this Tuesday.

Tulsa X

The Great Lake Loons went on the road to take on the Lansing Lugnuts. RHP Jared Karros took the mound for game one. Karros pitched an impressive 6IP / 2H / 5K / 1.74ERA to get the loons the first win of the series. LHP Maddux Bruns took the mound for game three, Bruns pitched a great game with 4.0IP / 3H / 2BB / 6K / 1.04ERA. CF Chris Newhall continued to crush the ball this series. Newhall hit number 8 and 9 HR’s which was key in Thursday’s game, Chris’s stats so far this season are good, 115AB / 23H / 9HR / 24 RBI / .200 AVG / .321AVG / .808OPS. Thursday was a big game for the Loons, with that win the Loons became the first team in the Mid-West League to win 20 games. The Loons went to extra innings twice in this series and could not get the win in both games. Like Tulsa, Great Lakes loses the series 2-4 and travel home for another 6-game series against Beloit.

The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes went on the road to take on the Visalia Rawhide. Rancho dropped the first game but came back strong in game two. RHP Patrick Copen took the mound and pitched 5.0IP / 2H / 0ER / 2BB / 6K / 3.92 ERA that led the Quakes to a 5-0 win over the Rawhide. 1B Joe Vetrano was the standout, Vetrano went 5AB / 3H / 2RBI / .290AVG / .816OPS. Other stand outs for the Quakes, CF Josue De Paula with key singles and multiple stolen bases, 2B Jordan Thompson with clutch RBI hitting and crushing his fifth HR of the year, SS Oswaldo Osorio continued his hitting ways in this series, and OF Samual Munoz with a HR and 3 RBI. RHP Roque Gutierrez closed the series against the Rawhide pitching with a solid 5.0IP / 3H / 1ER / 1BB / 5K / 5.47ERA. Rancho wins the series 4-2 and travels home to take on Inland Empire on Tuesday.

All four Affiliate teams travel back home to start another six-game series next week. OKC ends their series 23-16, Tulsa drops to 13-18, Loons are 1st in the Mid-East 20-13, and Rancho is first in the CAL South 19-12. Next week should be more exciting baseball to watch from the farm system.
