It was a wild week in Dodgers baseball as the Dodgers split a weird four-games series in Philly that started with a blowout Dodgers win in game one, numerous rain delays, and a couple of squeaker wins by the Phillies after the Dodgers came from behind. Oh and home runs… lots of home runs.
We can’t get far into this post without mentioning Matt Beaty. I mean, seriously? Where did this guy come from? A Twitter post from his wife pretty much summed it up:
Yeah, pretty much.
After the Dodgers blew a six run lead in Saturday’s game vs Miami, Beaty knocked a three-run shot to go ahead in the eighth, earning a curtain call after yet another clutch appearance.
The four game series in Philly was marred by some lackluster bullpen work, especially a blown save from Kenley Jansen. More bad news for the ’pen yesterday as it seems Scott Alexander may be out indefinitely with nerve damage to his left thumb.
Zac Rosscup was DFA’d and Caleb Ferguson has continued to struggle, although he did manage 2 K’s and a scoreless 9th in the blowout-closer against Miami Sunday. With the trade deadline fast approaching the Dodgers are rumored to be pursuing numerous left-handed relievers on the market. Among those names being kicked around are the Pirate’s Felipe Vasquez, the Royals Jake Dickman and the Giant’s Will Smith (which would be awesome just so Will Smith can catch Will Smith at some point.)
The Dodgers continue to fire all on cylinders, with just an occasional sputter.
So who should LA go after to bolster the bullpen? Would the Giants even consider a trade of Smith to their NL West archrivals? Who should LA give up?
