Dodgers Drop Series to Angels, Look to Bounce Back in San Diego

The Dodgers dropped the first Freeway Series of the season Sunday, Shohei Ohtani’s pinch hit home run off reliever JT Chargois being the difference in the 4-3 loss.

The Dodgers took an early lead on a three-run homer from Yasiel Puig, his 11th of the season. Yet Puig grimaced in pain during his next at-bat, leaving the game with rib soreness. Reports have him slated for an MRI Monday, but a DL stint is likely.

L.A.’s depth and versatility in the outfield will make up for a DL’d Puig, yet with his bat hot as of late his absence won’t go unnoticed.

The Angels got into the game in the sixth with a three-run shot from Albert Pujols off starter Alex Wood. Wood got a no-decision, Chargois taking the loss.

With the Diamondbacks loss to San Diego Sunday, the Dodgers remain a game out of first.

The Dodgers continue the freeway trek Monday, facing the Padres for four. Clayton Kershaw takes the mound for L.A.

Game time is 7:10 pm, PST.
