Arlington— With the entire city of Los Angeles on his back, Walker Buehler absolutely delivered in Game 3 of the 2020 World Series. The 26-year-old yet again etched his name into the record books as he became the third-youngest pitcher in World Series history with 10 strikeouts and 3 or fewer hits allowed in a game. Buehler led the Dodgers to a huge win as they take a 2-1 lead over the Rays.
Game Recap: The scoring started early in Game 3 when Justin Turner launched a solo home run in the top of the 1st inning to give the Dodgers much needed momentum. Max Muncy came up big in the top of the 3rd with a 2 run single to give the Dodgers a 3-0 lead. A pair of singles by Cody Bellinger and Joc Pederson started a rally for the Dodgers in the top of the 4th. Austin Barnes would score Cody Bellinger with his sac bunt to extend the Dodger lead to 4-0. Later that inning, Mookie Betts showed his presence with an RBI single to score Joc Pederson.
After a huge inning from the Dodgers, the Rays responded in the bottom of the 5th with an RBI double from Willy Adames giving Buehler his only earned run allowed. Austin Barnes answered back with a solo home run in the top of the 6th, putting the Dodgers up 6-1.
Blake Treinen and Brusdar Graterol combined for a couple of clean innings as Treinen pitched the 7th and Graterol the 8th. Kenley Jansen appeared in the 9th to close it out, giving up a solo home run to Randy Arozarena.
Postgame: When asked about Walker Buehler’s performance in Game 3, catcher Austin Barnes said “that might have been the best I’ve ever seen his stuff”.
Walker Buehler gave all the credit to his offense for the win as he said “our team gave me an early cushion so I could be aggressive”.
What’s Next: The Dodgers hold a 2-1 lead in the 2020 World Series, sending Julio Urías to the mound for Game 4. Urías has an ERA of 0.56 throughout the playoffs, he will try to follow Buehler’s stellar outing with one of his own.
