Dodgers News: Joe Davis “doing great”, eyes return to mic

LOS ANGELES — Good news for the Dodgers’ broadcast crew. It looks like main play-by-play man Joe Davis will be back in the saddle for the last couple of regular season games after working through a bout of Covid-19 at home.

Davis, who has been on the shelf since September 22 after a positive diagnosis, took to social media on Tuesday night to update fans on his condition.

In addition to Davis’s absence, analyst Orel Hershiser has been quarantining from home in accordance with the team’s Covid protocols. In their stead, the games have been covered by fill-in man Tim Neverett and Nomar Garciaparra. Even if the replacements are talented broadcasters, and Neverett and Garciaparra are that to be sure, there is something about having a familiar voice bringing us the games that is irreplaceable. And Davis’s professionalism and easy rapport with Hershiser are tough to replicate. It will be good to have them back in the booth.

Now we can only hope those last two games will mean something…
