Game 27, 4/25/2024: Dodgers 2, Nationals 1

WASHINGTON, DC— The Los Angeles Dodgers are going for the series sweep in our nation’s capital after a dominating 11-2 win last night.

The Dodgers will turn to right-handed pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto as he looks to rebound after a lackluster start against the Mets his last time out. However, he did go six innings for the first time in his young career.

Opposing him would be former Padres top prospect left-haded pitcher MacKenzie Gore, who is 2-1 with a 3.60 to start the 2024 season but has a 4.80 ERA at Nationals Park.

Compared to last night’s offensive showcase, the Dodgers and Nationals bats were equally quiet throughout the night as the fans were treated to an old-fashioned pitching duel.

For the Nationals, Gore kept the Dodgers off balance, tossing six innings of one-run ball. The one blemish was a solo home run off the bat of Teoscar Hernández, his sixth of the year. It gave the Dodgers their one-run lead, which they held for most of the game.

The Dodgers would strike for one more run in the 8th inning as Freddie Freeman‘s double would give the Dodgers their much-needed insurance run. Freeman had another multi-hit game, reaching base in three of his four appearances.

On the pitching side, Yoshinobu Yamamoto pitched arguably the best start of his MLB career, throwing six scoreless innings, allowing four hits, one walk, and seven strikeouts on 97 pitches.

However, there was a major scare in the 5th inning when former Braves Eddie Rosario hit a line drive directly at Yamamoto. Thankfully, the young Japanese pitcher had cat-like reflexes and caught it before it could have done immense damage.

The Dodgers bullpen would hold it down in the final three innings, with Alex Vesia, Daniel Hudson, and Evan Phillips securing the Dodgers 2-1 win in Washington, D.C., finishing off the series sweep and their fourth win in a row.

The team will now travel to Toronto to face the Blue Jays as Ohtani and the Dodgers visit the Rogers Center for the first time since the Ohtani/plane drama in December.
