Dodgers Take Series From Rox as NL West Remains Tight

How’s the edge of your seat? Needless to say mine got a lot of use over the weekend, as the Dodgers took two of three from Colorado and move within a ½ game of first in the NL West.

Friday night’s game was the true nail-biter, with Clayton Kershaw going six and the Dodger bullpen shutting things down without Kenley Jansen, who stayed behind on doctor’s orders. Kenta Maeda and Scott Alexander combined as the closer, shutting down the Rockies to win 4-2.

The Rockies flipped the switch on Saturday night, and despite a late inning rally with a triple from Cody Bellinger and a double from Max Muncy to score Bellinger, L.A. dropped the game, 4-2.

Sunday’s game had the makings of a blowout, yet as every announcer is fond of saying, no lead is safe at Coors Field. Sunday was definitely Justin Turner Day, going four for five and coming up just a triple short of the cycle.

The Dodgers had an 8-2 lead in the sixth, yet a double from DJ LeMahieu, and a two-run shot from Nolan Arenado got the Rockies within three. Another long ball from Charlie Blackmon got the Rockies within two in the eighth, but an RBI from Alex Verdugo in the ninth gave the Dodgers another insurance run.

L.A. hung on to win, 9-6.

The Dodgers head to Cincinnati for three and St. Louis for four before their final homestand of the regular season.

Game time today is 3:40 pm, PST.

The collective groan could be heard across Dodger’s fandom as the Mets went yard for two-run shots in back to back innings Tuesday night. Twitter was (likely) alight with “Fire Roberts” as the pessimistic among you assumed the worst, that the Dodgers were setting up to lose another game to the sub .500 New York Mets…
