Rough Week for LA – Look to Turn Things Around in the Home Stretch

Let’s face it, it’s been a rough week-plus for the Dodgers. They lost 3 of 4 to the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field, pitcher Dustin May took a line drive from Jake Lamb to the head, and Max Muncy is out with a fractured wrist after a HBP in San Diego last week. LA is 4-6 over their last 10 but got a win yesterday after a late inning home run from Cody Bellinger in the 9th to tie, and an absolute bomb from Joc Pederson in the 11th for the go-ahead.

All 4 runs scored by LA were on solo home runs: Russell Martin and David Freese also went yard.

The Dodgers lost 2 of 3 to the Yankees last weekend but managed to take a series from San Diego mid-week.

So, should we worry? I don’t think so. Sure we’re hitting a few bumps in the road to October, but this is still nothing compared to the huge late August-into-September losing streak of 2017 or the limp and stagger into the World Series of last year. The Dodgers face all but a few non-contenders through the rest of the regular season.

But let’s move onto something bit more fun, shall we? As some of you know I’m based out of Portland, OR and don’t get to many games every year. Last season we caught the inter-league games vs Seattle and happened upon Chase Utley in the Public Market. This season we flew down to San Diego (last week) to catch two of three games vs the Padres.

As luck would have it, Tommy Lasorda was sitting just a few rows away from us along the 3rd base field level seats. As Tommy left the game with his small entourage, he passed right by my youngest son who just happened to grab a pen from the hotel as we headed for the game. Despite Tommy’s handler insisting he wasn’t going to sign, Tommy did just that. Made for yet another great baseball trip (and kind of overshadowed the foul ball I got from Dino Ebel!)
