LOS ANGELES - APRIL 13: Dodgers broadcaster Vin Skully gives the call of "It's time for Dodger baseball!" during pregame ceremonies for the Los Angeles Dodgers home opener against the San Francisco Giants on April 13, 2009 at Dodger Stadiium in Los Angeles, California. CHICAGO, IL — In a classy move from their National League foes, Vin Scully got the send-off he deserved. At Friday afternoon’s Cubs/Marlins game, the Cubs forewent their usual tradition of having a famous Chicagoan lead the singing of “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” during the 7th inning stretch. No, it wasn’t Bill Murray, or Eddie Vedder, or even John Mulaney who did the honors in this one, but none other than our dearly departed Vin Scully.

The Cubbies played 2016 footage of Vinnie leading the crowd in the baseball anthem. In fine voice, Scully got two different crowds to join him in the song, the one on video and the present-day crowd there in 2022. It was a touching tribute, and we don’t mind at all that Vinnie sang, “Let’s root, root, root for the Cuuuuuubies!”

Watch the whole thing play out here.

Well, played, Cubbies, well played.
